Ephraim van IJzerlooij studeerde cello aan het Koninklijk conservatorium in Den Haag bij Monique Bartels en Dmitri Ferschtman waar hij met hoge onderscheiding zijn Master of Music behaalde. Hij volgde o.a. masterclasses bij Yo-Yo Ma, Natalia Gutman, Bernard Greenhouse, Menahem Pressler.
Ephraim is een toegewijd kamermusicus en bevlogen solist. Hij speelde o.a. in 2018 het celloconcert No. 3 in A van Carl Ph. E Bach met het Cuypersensemble o.l.v. Maurits Wijzenbeek. Met violist Bob van der Ent vormt hij al jaren het bekende Duo Con Fuoco. Met pianist Paul de Boer en violist Andrea Bentivoglio vormt hij het Chiara pianotrio. In 2006 werkte hij samen met componiste Sofia Gubaidulina en dirigent Reinbert de Leeuw aan de uitvoering van haar "Am Rande des Abgrunds", onder meer tijdens de Cellobiënnale Amsterdam. Het zijn dierbare herinneringen geworden.
Ephraim componeert ook en schrijft gedichten.
Biography
Ephraim van IJzerlooij (1983) is an allround cellist, composer and poet. His Master of Music final exam at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague was awarded a 9, with distinction for the poetry in his playing.Ephraim took masterclasses with Vladimir Perlin, Bernard Greenhouse, Menahem Pressler, Natalia Gutman, Yo Yo Ma, Shmuel Ashkenasi. Ephraim is a dedicated chamber musician; he forms the Duo Con Fuoco with violinist Bob van der Ent. With violinist Andrea Bentivoglio and pianist Paul de Boer he forms the Chiara pianotrio. He also collaborates with pianist and composer Imke Jelle van Dam. In 2018 they recorded a CD "Musical Stories" with their own compositions. Besides playing the cello, Ephraim also writes poems. In 2015 a collection of his (De Klank Van Stilte) was published by Boekscout.nl.
Ephraim is a Master of Music at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In 2006 he collaborated with composer Sofia Gubaidulina on the performance of her “Am Rande des Abgrunds”, including performances at the Cellobiënnale Amsterdam.

Ephraim plays on a cello built by Daniel Roye, 2004 in Amsterdam. He has purchased this instrument in 2013 with the support of the Dutch SEM Fund.
